Climate-smart aquaculture

From productive farms to climate-smart farms.

Netzero AQUA helps aquaculture producers increase productivity while reducing environmental impact and building resilience for a changing climate.

25–40%Higher productivity
20–35%Lower water use
20–30%Lower emissions
2×Better resilience

The challenge

Aquaculture faces rising pressure.

Three pressures that arrive together, and that a farm cannot solve one at a time.

01

Environmental pressure

Climate change, water stress, coastal degradation and tightening environmental regulation are all rising at the same time.

02

Resource intensive

Higher water use, energy consumption and feed inefficiency raise operating costs and environmental impact together.

03

Limited measurement

Without consistent data and standard metrics there is no baseline to improve against and nothing a buyer can verify.

Our approach

Six levers for climate-smart aquaculture.

Pull one and the others move. Cutting water exchange changes energy draw; better feed conversion changes waste load; every one of them changes the carbon number at the end. That is why we treat farm climate performance as a system rather than a checklist.

The six levers above, on one farm. Satellite and drone monitoring through BlueSat, in-pond sensors for pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature and salinity, automated feeding, smart aeration, solar-powered operations and RAS filtration — all reporting into a single control room view.

The journey

A measurable transformation.

What changes between a conventional operation and a climate-smart one, and by how much we design for it to change.

A conventional pond farm

Conventional farm

  • High water exchange
  • High energy use
  • Feed inefficiency
  • Waste discharged
  • Ecosystem pressure
  • Limited measurement
Productivity +20–40%
Water use −20–35%
Energy use −15–30%
FCR −10–25%
Emissions −20–30%

Systems

Technology for different farming systems.

Netzero AQUA is not arguing that everyone needs RAS. Different farms need different pathways to climate-smart production, and the cheapest pathway is usually the one that keeps the farm you already have.

Controlled systems

RAS systems

High productivity with minimal water use, in a fully controlled environment.

  • High biosecurity

The RAS / biofloc demonstration layout. Water runs a closed loop — rearing tanks, mechanical filtration for solids, biological filtration for nitrification, treatment and disinfection, then back to the tanks. What leaves the loop leaves as solids: sludge is collected and returned to the land as organic fertiliser rather than discharged.

Impact potential

Measure what improves.

Build the measurement first and the numbers become arguments. Build the numbers first and they stay claims.

35% Target higher productivity
28% Target lower water use
22% Target lower emissions
100+ Target farms on the platform

Case studies

Real farms. Real measurement.

Each of these projects has a defined set of KPIs under measurement. Until a result is measured it is published as a pilot KPI, not as an outcome.

The model

Observe, measure, optimise, decarbonise, restore, verify.

The sequence matters. A farm that decarbonises before it measures has no way to show what changed; a farm that verifies before it optimises has verified the wrong baseline.
